Riverwest
Riverwest traces its roots to the industrial areas along the Milwaukee River, and was developed by the workers who made their livings here at the turn of the 20th century. The neighborhood is bounded by the Milwaukee River to the east and south, Capitol Drive to the north, and Holton Street on the West.
This area has a variety of housing stock, from modest “polish flats” that feature basement level apartments, to the stately brick duplexes and single family homes that line Humboldt Boulevard. Today it is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city, and the residents range from students to working class and professionals. It has a particularly vibrant arts and music scene, and is sought after for its proximity to the Milwaukee River, downtown, and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
